Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Musical analysis appears to many students as a mysterious and inaccessible world, or a dry desert. But if we regard music as the object of musicology, musical analysis opens up possibilities for a close reading of this object, especially in European art music. We will train analysis of musical pieces between 1790 and 1830, that is the music of Beethoven, Schubert, and their contemporaries. We will primarily focus on piano music, but also take chamber music and songs into account. Problems of harmony, motivic "Arbeit", form, text treatment etc. etc. will be investigated.
