Aims, contents and method of the course

In this class the central areas of linguistics will be presented. Emphasis is laid on the introduction of basic concepts, theses and models of phonology, morphology, semantics and pragmatics. In practical exercises students will discover important analytical methods of linguistics. This class is obligatory in the first semester and the prerequisite for all further classes.

Homework, participation in class, written final examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Introduction to central areas of linguistics (esp. phonology, morphology, semantics and pragmatics) and more detailed study and practice accompanying the lecture: Introduction to general linguistics.

Examination topics

Conventional teaching, exercises (in groups and at home), discussion. The class will partly be conducted via the electronic learning platform Moodle.
