The course gives an overview of the so-called Indo-European language family in modern and Ancient times covering all its 12 branches (Anatolian, Tocharian, Indic, Iranian, Albanian, Armenian, Greek, Italic, Celtic, Germanic, Baltic, Slavic). Students will also become familiar with theoretical concepts of language change and with the main features of the reconstructed grammatical system of Proto-Indo-European.Aim
The class is a preparation for advanced and specialized courses in particular Indo-European languages and for any linguistic research related to Ancient languages and diachronic linguistic questions.Method
Lecture aided by PowerPoint slides (ca. 60-80 slides per unit) voa Moodle/BigBlueButton; the slides will be uploaded on the Moodle Learning Platform as well as a bibliography. The detailed program of every unit is available on the Moodle Platform as well.Quiz
