Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In traditional descriptions of English, subject Case is claimed to be contingent on finiteness, as is verb agreement. In the last decade, many counterexamples to this generalization have come to light: nominative case and verb agreement are found in various languages in non-finite contexts. This seminar takes up the question of where nominative case originates, if not with finiteness, and what new grammatical principle replaces the Case Filter.
