Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
No previous knowledge of Irish is absolutely necessary for this course. However, if you have no previous knowledge, it is expected that you attend the basic lecture running parallel to the tutorial on Irish (Course No. 160200). The course on pronunciation and dialects is no use without at least a little knowledge of the structures of Irish. Interest in languages and linguistics would also help.
Examination topics
The students are expected to actively participate during the tutorial and also to practise at home. Texts and recordings will be made available on Moodle. In some cases recordings will be made available for this purpose.
Reading list
I recommend, that every student has a dictionary (e.g. Foclóir Póca, Publ. An Gúm - will be ordered together at the beginning of the course). There are alternatives in the internet (focloir.ie) but they often give the student too much information. Working with small compact dictionary is generally easier.
