Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will gain familiarity with the terminology of film theory, particularly terms pertaining to the topic of narrativity. Ideally, students will further their ability to produce good arguments and to critically read theoretical texts.

Short presentations, the writing of excerpts and commentaries, plus in-class discussions of film excerpts and the texts of our reading list.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Detailed analysis of texts and film-excerpts
- Critical discussion in class
- Writing of excerpts and commentaries

The texts for the specific assignments will be provided on moodle and the homework has to be handed in four days prior to the next session. Giving a short presentation in class reduces the number of written assignments from seven to six.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A minimum of seven short written texts is the basis for a positive grade in this class. Attendance is expected, two unexplained absences per term are permitted. Each homework will be graded separately, the sum of written work amounts to 70 percent of the overall grade, 30 percent being the active participation in discussions.
