Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Once upon a time... the tool. Inspired by Harald Hillgärtners plea for a rehabilitation of a devalued term in the media theory of the computer, this seminar will attempt to dust off and reassess this term once more. Departing from an examination of what media and tools, against a media and cultural studies background, may come to be (and where their capacities overlap), we will discuss a range of theoretical approaches to tools and other 'handable' objects and apply them to a range of representations of tools, esp. in TV series (MacGyver, Home Improvement).
