Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The central question of this seminar is: Are media prostheses of our body and senses? Does the camera replace the eye, the sound recording device our ears, can perceptions be replaced or extended by by media? On the one hand, this will require the consultation of respective theories which conceptualize media as prostheses, and on the other hand the deliberation of functions and examples, where media are used as or could be interpreted as prosthetic. Please read this short glossary article as a primer: http://csmt.uchicago.edu/glossary2004/prosthesis.htm
