Die letzte Lehrveranstaltung (LV) in der Version BA Philosophie 2011 wurde hierzu im Sommersemester 2017 abgehalten.
Sollten Sie noch immer die LV für die BA-Philosophie-Version 2011 absolvieren - und sich nicht unter den neuen Studienplan (Version 2017) unterstellen lassen wollen (https://ssc-phil.univie.ac.at/studienorganisation/unterstellungen/bachelor-philosophie-von-2011-auf-2017/), so können Sie noch bis Sommersemester 2020 diese Äquivalenz-LV aus dem neuen Studienplan für die Version 2011 auf Basis der je aktuellen, äquivalenten LV ablegen. Eigene LVen für die Version 2011 können nicht mehr angeboten werden.
Bei der Anmeldung zur LV achten Sie bitte unbedingt darauf, dass Ihre Anmeldung über die für Sie gültige Version erfolgt (!).
In der Regel stehen mehrere Studienplanpunkte bei der Anmeldung zur Auswahl. Die Auswahl der Studienplanpunkte kann vom System her nicht auf Ihre tatsächliche Curriculumsversion begrenzt werden. D.h. Sie müssen bei der Anmeldung darauf achten, sich ausschließlich 1. für LVen Ihres Curriculums und 2. der im U:Find angegebenen Codierung/Zuordnungen (bei jeder LV untenstehend angegeben) anzumelden. Andernfalls können Sie die Leistung ggf. nicht für Ihr Studium verwenden. Eine nachträgliche Änderung kann vom SSC nicht abgesichert werden.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content:

This course provides an insight into the debate rich in tradition on the ontological status of subjectivity and its relation to reality. Main issues will concern the question how exactly the being of self, subject resp. subjectivity is to be conceived of in the light of different philosophical perspectives. In addition to the analysis of some classical approaches, the focus will be on contemporaneous authors with background in Analytical Philosophy of Mind, Phenomenology or the Kantian tradition.

Methods:

- Reading of articles and writing short essays (0,5 -1 page) prior to the meetings
- Discussion of articles in group work and in plenum
- Focus on understanding and discussion of arguments presented in the texts
- Attending a conference at the Department of Philosophy Vienna (1,5-3 h)
- Writing a paper (4500-6000 words) at the end of the semester

Aims:

Students will

- learn central concepts of self, subject, and subjectivity
- get to know different techniques of argumentation and practice to formulate own arguments in the discussion
- learn to handle different philosophical approaches and traditions
- learn to formulate own focused essay topics and written arguments

Assessment and permitted materials

- Participation in discussions (25 %)
- Submission of short essays (600-800 words) prior to the meetings (25 %)
- Seminar paper (around 6000 words) (50 %)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- Presence at meetings (max. number of absence at meetings: 3)
- Submission of at least 60% of the short essays
- Submission of seminar paper
