Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Responsibility is one of the most important, but also most misunderstood concepts in practical philosophy. This research seminar explores the concept, draws distinctions between culpability, responsibilty, and causation and works on applications in the information age. The application part is focused on information technologies, on new media, and also on recent developments in areas of application of AI. The goal of this seminar is twofold: on the one hand, it discusses the research literature on "responsibility" in ethics; on the other hand, it investigates applications of this term with respect to information technologies and – more broadly conceived – new technologies. At the center is an intense debate of research literature.
Assessment and permitted materials
Every participant is expected to (1) attend regularly and participate actively (2) hold a presentation of one of the seminar's texts (3) develop a presentation for the research colloquium and (4) write a term paper.
