Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content
This seminar will focus on menstrual health as a multi-layered construct and its relationship with health psychology and health outcomes. During the semester we will unpack menstrual health in its physical, mental social dimensions to gain a deeper understanding how these, individually and together, influence menstrual experiences, and, consequently, health behaviours. Students will additionally engage with contemporary “hot topics” (e.g., menstrual leave, menstrual synchrony) and learn to critically evaluate scientific evidence as well as societal narratives surrounding these debates.

Aims
By the end of the course students will:
1) be able to define and describe menstrual health in its different layers (physical, mental and social) and draw connections between them, health psychology and health outcomes
2) gain foundational knowledge about the menstrual cycle and how different intersecting identities impact the experience of it, in relation to health
3) be able to critically evaluate menstrual health literature as well as social media content in the context of menstrual health

Methods
A combination of lectures, guided discussions, structured debates, peer-feedback activities, guest speakers interview, and student presentations.
