Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This practice-oriented course teaches the fundamentals of qualitative research in psychology. Working in small groups, students go through the entire research process: from formulating questions to conducting interviews and transcribing them to analysing the results. The focus is on methods of thematic analysis. The aim is not only to understand research, but also to try it out for themselves and finally to write up the results in a scientific section on methods and findings.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attendance: You may be absent without excuse for a maximum of 2 x 90 minutes.

Examination topics
The grade is based on:
- Presentation of group work results (25%): At the end of the semester, you will present the results of a small(!) research project.
- Self-reflection (15%): After the first two blocks, you will write a short self-reflection on the topics you have learned – the focus here is on the depth of self-reflection, not the ‘correctness’ of your thoughts.
- Participation (10%): The course thrives on exchange. You are expected to come to the sessions prepared (you may be absent without excuse for 2 x 90 minutes) and to actively contribute with questions, comments and your own thoughts.
- Individual final paper(50%): You will write this assignment on your own, even if you collected the data as part of a team. The final paper demonstrates your ability to write up the results of qualitative research in accordance with scientific standards. This final assignment must be passed (at least 60% of the maximum number of points available for this assignment) in order to successfully complete the seminar.
