Visual politics

Die Lehrformate für das WS (digital, hybrid, vor Ort) befinden sich in Entwicklung. Die Lehrenden werden die geplante Organisationsform und Lehrmethodik auf ufind und Moodle bekannt geben. Aufgrund von Covid19 muss mit kurzfristigen Änderungen in Richtung digitaler Lehre gerechnet werden.

Nicht-prüfungsimmanente (n-pi) Lehrveranstaltung. Eine Anmeldung über u:space ist erforderlich. Mit der Anmeldung werden Sie automatisch für die entsprechende Moodle-Plattform freigeschaltet. Vorlesungen unterliegen keinen Zugangsbeschränkungen.

VO-Prüfungstermine erfordern eine gesonderte Anmeldung.
Mit der Teilnahme an der Lehrveranstaltung verpflichten Sie sich zur Einhaltung der Standards guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis. Schummelversuche und erschlichene Prüfungsleistungen führen zur Nichtbewertung der Lehrveranstaltung (Eintragung eines 'X' im Sammelzeugnis).

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture deals with manifold functions of visuals in politics. Visuals are omnipresent in daily political business: they mark the field of the visible and showable, shape our ideas of current and historical political events, become assets of political events and lend them a symbolic dimension. On the basis of current visual examples of visual politics and its mediation (e.g. election campaigns, political photojournalism, strategic self-presentation of politicians, photos of war and conflict situations), structures, conventions, motifs and genres that are constitutive visual politics are discussed.

The aim of the course is to introduce participants to visual phenomena and their significance for political processes. At the end of the semester, participants should be familiar with current cultural and social science theories of the visual and have increased visual competence in the analysis of visual phenomena of the political.

The seminar units take place digitally and are streamed on the e-learning platform MOODLE.

Assessment and permitted materials

Digital written exam (with examination sheet for download and upload to MOODLE). The four examination dates will be announced on U:SPACE, in the course, by mailing via the e-learning platform MOODLE and on the website of the Department of Political Science. Please do not forget to register for an exam via U:SPACE.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Four essay questions are asked during the written examination. 25 points can be awarded per question. At least 51 points are required for a positive assessment.

00-50 points: Not Sufficient
51-70 points: Sufficient
71-80 points: Satisfactory
81-90 points: Good
91-100 points: Very Good

Examination topics

The contents of the lecture units are relevant for the examination. Selected basic texts and learning materials are made available on the e-learning platform MOODLE.
