The course instructor may invite students to an oral exam about the student’s written contributions in the course. Plagiarized contributions have the consequence that the course won’t be graded (instead the course will be marked with an ‘X’ in the transcript of records).

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course examines the development of a common EU´s migration policy, its actors, processes and implications. By focusing on the EU´s policies and politics involved in migration governance, it allows understanding the challenges that international migration has raised for the European integration process itself. Students will have the opportunity to conduct case-study analysis, allowing them to apply the acquired analytical skills.

Assessment and permitted materials

Final Essay (3000 words) 55%
Active participation, attendance and weekly assignments (45%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The grade will be based on the following criteria:
Regular attendance (mandatory. No more than two sessions may be missed and written tasks will compensate for the missing classes).
Active participation and written assignments to prepare the discussion ahead of every session (submission of summaries of the readings and targeted questions to start the debate).
Individual written assignment (essay)
Oral assignment (presentation or group discussions depending on the final number of students)
Submission of each assignment on time is mandatory.
Demonstrate an appropriate use of academic sources and the capacity to look for scientifically relevant sources.

Examination topics

Students are expected to engage with the literature of the course provided by the lecturer and look independently for additional literature.
