Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to critically examine the concept of decarbonization from different perspectives. What does the term mean, by whom is it used and how? What kind of intentions have different governments around the world made on the topic? What policies have they initiated to advance decarbonization? What successes and failures have been recorded so far, and what criteria can be usefully applied? What are the causes of the failures, what conflicts and interests are at play?
In the seminar we will read and discuss scientific texts on the topic, analyze other relevant material, especially reports of international organizations and actors (e.g. IEA, IPCC, ect.) as well as recent newspaper articles on decarbonization efforts in different countries. From a methodological point of view, students will further deepen their skills in critical analysis of scientific texts and learn to research and classify relevant material on the topic.
