Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Konzeption und Durchführung von empirischen Studien, wobei sowohl quantitative als auch qualitative Methoden eingesetzt werden (Stichwort: Methodenmix). Im Seminar werden die empirischen Zugänge gemeinsam diskutiert und erarbeitet.

Aims, contents and method of the course
"Researching Children, Democracy and the Media in Europe"This is a designated Jean Monnet course associated with the Jean Monnet Chair of Professor Sarikakis.This FOSE B course will address research questions, methods and ethical considerations on doing research with and about children in the field of media governance.
Children are to be understood as citizens in their own right, both in a state of need for protection and also with rights and as active agents of their own lives. The course focuses on European integration and civil rights dimensions by exploring children's roles, needs and positions as the future makers and leaders in European Union societies.
The course will address in particular the media governance questions and ethics about

>> children and the news.The language of instruction is English.
Nevertheless, your final project report can be written in German as well.

The presence in the first session is obligatory. Otherwise, only one session may be missed without affecting the final grade.

5 (nicht genügend) --> 49-0 points.In order to ensure good scientific practice, the course instructor may require an oral reflection on the seminar paper submitted, which must be successfully completed.

ATTENTION: The seminar, cooperated with students from Pennstate University, is scheduled for the timeframe of July 10 to August 10. But there will not every day happen a meeting. In fact there will take place - next to individually scheduled buddy meetings - around 7 plenum meetings. More precise information will follow.
This course will take place in the summer of 2019 - along with a PennState University course - between 10th July and 10th August 2019. Dates of the 7 meetings can only be scheduled more exactly after the number of participants, both from the University of Vienna and PennState University is known, and even then dates can change at short notice due to weather conditions. It is therefore not recommended to attend this course in addition to full employment unless you can respond flexibly.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims, contents and method of the course
Thema: Das Verhältnis von Jugendlichen und Journalismus. Im Rahmen des Forschungsseminars soll ausgehend von Studien, die sich damit befassen, wie sich die unter 30-Jährigen informieren, der Frage nachgegangen werden, welche Einstellungen junge Erwachsene zum Journalismus haben. Dabei soll erhoben werden wie junge Menschen "den" Journalismus sehen und u.a. welchen Stellenwert dieses Berufsbild für ihre eigenen beruflichen Entscheidungen einnimmt. Parallel dazu sollen Projekte, die Jugendlichen einen Zugang zum Journalismus eröffnen möchten, untersucht werden und es sollen auch junge JournalistInnen zu ihren Erfahrungen befragt werden.
