Field stay in Kyrgyzstan, expected to last from August 17 to September 9, 2026

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The primary aim of the field school is to provide students with an opportunity to conduct short-term ethnographic fieldwork during a field stay in Kyrgyzstan for three weeks in August/September 2026 (latest arrival in Bishkek on Monday August 17; earliest departure on Wednesday September 9, 2026.).
The major research activity will be ethnographic fieldwork connected with the 6th World Nomad Games, taking place in Kyrgyzstan August 31 - September 6, 2026. Thus, the students will practice and expand their ethnographic methodological skills through practical research primarily in the field of sports anthropology. They will apply the research designs, which they have already developed in the preceding methodology seminar 240507-1 SE MM2 World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan (2026S).
While the principal fieldwork itinerary and coordination as well as the main logistical support (minivan transportation and basic accommodations in hostels) will be organized by the lecturers of the field school, course participants must take care of their individual arrangements.

For students whose admission to the Master’s program is subject to conditions ("Ergänzungsprüfungen"): Enrollment in these courses requires that any supplementary requirements have already been fulfilled.
