Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to identify the characteristics and desiderata of the mathematical education of teaching students of the subject mathematics and to derive measures for their realization.

For a long time the mathematical education of teaching students of the subject mathematics has been in the (international) discussion. This goes back to Felix Klein, who created the term "double discontinuity". It deals with the transitions school - university at the beginning of the study on the one hand, and university-school at the end of the studies, at starting with the job, on the other hand. Numerous concrete measures, such as bridging courses or "school mathematics" lectures at the individual tertiary educational institutions, testify to the efforts that these transitions do not become breaks.

In order to get to know the theoretical approaches to this problem area, two books will be discussed in more detail: "On the double discontinuity in high school teacher education" (2013) and "Designing transitions constructively." (2015), both published by Springer Verlag (see references). Content will be presented in (individual) lectures and further considerations will be made. The reflection of own experiences from the study is welcome!

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral: Assessment of the seminar lectures and the contributions to the discussions in the seminar sessions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Presentation: Content and Performance; Collaboration (including attendance).
The lecture mainly determines the assessment. If the result is not clear, the participation will be used in the discussions of the presentations of other participants.

Examination topics

Derives from the selected presentation topics.
