the basics of the representation of finite groups from the representation
theory of algebras. Alternatively, we can start by directly introducing
the character of a representation. In doing so we shall restrict to algebraically closed fields of characteristik 0, which has the advantage that in order to attend the lecture, knowledge of the very basics of algebra is sufficient. The goal of the lecture is to develop methods that allow to study the representations of such groups as GL(2,F), where F is a finite field or the symmetric groups.
