Aims, contents and method of the course

Compressed sensing is a recent mathematical theory in signal and data analysis. The underlying idea is that signals, images, or data can be represented as "short linear" combinations of vectors in a high-dimensional space and can thus be reconstructed with few measurements. Compressed sensing has become part of the toolbox in data science and a minimal version is usually taught in every data science program.
The goal of the course is to cover the mathematical foundations and a few algorithms, with an emphasis on the theory.
Prerequisites: linear algebra, some functional analysis, basic probability theory.
