Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will be a basic, foundational course on Algebraic Geometry, a classical subject in pure mathematics with connections to commutative algebra, number theory and various branches of geometry. In the first semester of the course, we aim to cover the basics of algebraic curves, affine and projective varieties of higher dimension, the Zariski topology, morphisms, local and global properties, and some classical examples.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written closed-book mid-term exam and examination at the end of the lecture course. There will be exercise sheets supported by exercise sessions to prepare for the examination questions.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Passing grade (50) achieved as a combination of the mid-term exam (30%) and the final examination (70%).
Examination topics
Basic properties of algebraic curves, affine and projective varieties, the Zariski topology, morphisms, local and global properties, and classical examples as discussed in the lecture course.
