The lecture takes place exclusively online in a mixed synchronous and asynchronous form. The lecture is provided in MP4 files on the Moodle website, and synchronous contact hours (question or virtual consultation hours) are offered via video conferences during regular lec-ture times (Mon and Wed 9:15-10:45).
More detailed information about the course will be provided via video conference on Wed 7.10. at 9:15 am and published on the corresponding Moodle website.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Structure and dynamics of solids: atomic and molecular bonds, crystal structure and reciprocal space, specific heat of the solid, phonons.
Electrons in the solid state: free electron gas, energy band structure, electronic transport effects, spectroscopy
Modern materials: semiconductors, low-dimensional solids, nano-materials.
Statistical physics is treated in E IV only marginally and elaborated in more detail in T IV.
The exercises for the lecture offer the students the opportunity to deepen and extend the lecture content. For this purpose, examples and problems from the subject area of the lecture are treated as computational exercises. The PUE should also serve as preparation for the module exam and is strongly recommended for this purpose.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written module exam. At least half the score is required for a positive assessment.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic understanding of physical and quantum statistics. Knowledge of the structure and the physical properties, as well as band structure of solids and the basic properties of modern materials.
