Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

We will focus on advanced exerperiments in atomic physics and quantum optics,
following books in the Oxford Master Series in Atomic, Optical and Laser Physics, specifically the two books by Christopher Foot (Atomic Physics) and Mark Fox (Quantum Optics)
The goal is to understand the concepts, ideas and experiments in these texts.
Students will have to be prepared to read the relevant chapters of the book and to prepare for every presentation about 30 pages of these books and evtl. associated background literature.

Assessment and permitted materials

2 presentations in the semester, à 45-60 min (black board or PPT) + discussion

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course counts as "passed" when all three criteria are met
- 80% attendance rate
- 2 talk delivered
Grade: 70% physics understanding. 30% clarity of the presentation
