This course should be attend in the winter semester, immediately following the General Chemistry A lecture, if possible. It begins on 9 December 2025, and you can register until 21 November 2025. PLEASE NOTE: If there is no waiting list, the course will not be announced in SoSe 26. If you are interested, please register in WiSe 25-26!

Starting on 9 December 2025, every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00 in the multifunction room (room 315) of the AECCs, Porzellangasse 4, staircase 2, 3rd floor.

1st course date: Thursday, 9 December 2025, 10:00 (attendance is mandatory!)

PLEASE NOTE: These dates only apply to Group 1 (Lembens & Teplá).

Aims, contents and method of the course

Selectes aspects of the lecture 'Allgemeine Chemie A' are reflected focusing on their educational relevance and feasibility in school.
Reflection of your own conceps of basic subject areas.
Insight into the challenges of chemistry teaching and learning.
Linking and enriching subject content knowledge with didactical knowledge.
First steps to develop an appropriate professional content knowledge for chemistry teaching.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular and active attendance, accomplishing defined tasks durig the course.
Written reflection ot the first session
Well prepared presentation in small groupes incl. handouts
Final paper (max. 3-4 pages, Arial 11, line spacing 1,5)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular and active attendance, submitting the required contributions on time.
The course can only be completed successfully if the final paper is assessed positive.

PLEASE NOTE: If there is no waiting list, the seminar will not be announced in SS26. If you are interested, please register in WS25 in any case!

Starting on December 4, 2025, Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Seminar Room 3 of the Faculty of Chemistry, Boltzmanngasse 1.

Preliminary meeting and first seminar session: Thursday, December 4, 2025, 9:00 a.m. in SR 3 (attendance required!)

Aims, contents and method of the course

Solidification of basics in chemistry which have been taught in the lecture "Allgemeine Chemie A". Professional and didactical reflexing, educational relevance and realization in class. Reflexing of pre- and misconceptions to basics of chemistry.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation and presence. Absence at only on unit will be accepted.
Written reflexing of the first course, team presentations and handouts, final report (max. 3-4 pages, Arial 11, line spacing 1,5) to a allotted topic of the seminar.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Goals and topics described above are closely connected with the requirements, see above. The presentation has to be given, Handouts and final report have to be submitted. For an overall positive mark the final paper has to be graded positively.

Examination topics

Single- and Teamwork, participation, handouts, presentations, final report.
There is no written or oral exam.
