Aims, contents and method of the course
The objective of the course is to improve the participants' knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry. A series of 12 individual synthetic steps will be performed to illustrate and practice typical working methods, as well as separation and purification procedures like extraction, distillation, chromatography, crystallisation, and performing reactions under absolute conditions. Control of purity and/or characterisation of isolated products will be done by physical and/or spectroscopic methods. For selected examples a literature search, including on-line information retrival will be performed with the aim to evaluate, adapt, and apply known synthetic procedures. To improve the theoretical background, the practical execises are accompanied by a proseminar dealing with basic reaction mechanisms (30 lessons).
Assessment and permitted materials
Beurteilung : Prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung; Durchführung und Charakterisierung der Präparate, mündliche Befragungen zu den durchgeführten Präparaten, Literatursuche, praktische Arbeit.
