Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students recognize the most important brittle and ductile deformation structures and are able to correctly interpret faults, folds, foliations, lineations and shear sense criteria. They know about the most important processes at constructive, conservative and destructive plate boundaries and can associate these with large-scale tectonic structures such as fold and thrust belts, metamorphic core complexes and pull-apart basins.

Exercises in the auditorium are part of the lectures (compulory attendence).

Assessment and permitted materials

Grading of the lecture part: 2 written performance assessments with a maximum of 35 achievable points (70 points in total).
Grading of the field exercises: presentation of the results of structural mapping in a written report (per group), field book beauty contest (individual; 30 points in total)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Lecture part positive from 36 out of 70 possible points, both written performance assessments must be positive.
Field exercises positive from 16 points.
The lecture part and the field exercise must be assessed positively.

Attendance is mandatory for lectures: no more than 3 absences.
Attendance is mandatory for field course.

Examination topics

All contents of the lectures

Reading list
