Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The students have a basic understanding of the processes underlying volcanic eruptions and the rheology of lava flows. They can assess natural hazards in different volcanic settings. They have hands-on experience in the processing of petrographic images of volcanic rocks and can apply it to rheology modelling of lava flows. They have gained field experience in volcanic areas. The course is organised in 3 parts, Part I: Theory section on volcanic processes in general with a focus on eruptions (14 teaching units); Part II: Practical exercises on image analysis and application to lava rheology modelling (10 teaching units); Part III: two-day field trip (6 teaching units).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The three parts of the assessment are each worth 33 points. The minimum requirement for passing the course is 50 points cumulatively.
