Attention: This excursion 280216-1 EX Field Course "Environmental Pollutants" (2025S) takes place in conjunction with the lab course 280215-1 LP Laboratory Course "Environmental Pollutants" (2026S). Students are requested to register for both courses as they cannot be taken separately.

The course will be conducted from June 29 to July 13 and on July 21 as in-person classroom sessions (schedule provided below), followed by group work from July 14 to July 31.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students know methods and the preparation of sampling for hydrogeological and environmental chemical research questions. They can analyzed the samples taken in the field in the laboratory.
The overall setting of the course is that the water quality at the field site (Lunz am See) is going to assessed. For this, the students will work on three part: Part 1. Hydrogeology /Groundwater
Sampling; Part 2. Sediment/Surface Water; Part 3. Organic pollutants from wastewater.
For each part, there will be a seminar, field and lab component. During the field parts, the students will learn about sampling, sample treatment, field parameters. The laboratory part will include nutrient analysis, inorganic water constituents, and organic trace analysis.

Assessment and permitted materials

The grading of the total course including the lab and field part (max of 100 points):
25 points for participation in the field
25 points for participation in the lab
50 points for the submitted report.
The grading scheme is as follows:
> 87% (1); 75-86 % (2); 63-74 % (3); 50-62 % (4); < 50 % (5)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

At least 50 % of the accumulated points from all assessments need to be reached.
Required attendance at preparatory meeting, excursions and laboratory work.

Examination topics

Active participation during the lab and field parts. Submitted report (deadline July, 28th).
