Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar we will read and discuss scientific papers on the future of climate modeling. We'll start by discussing what a (climate) model is (and isn't), followed by a close look at standard CMIP-style and simplified models of the Earth's atmosphere. The second part of the course will be devoted to exploring the new approaches to climate modeling, in particular high-resolution km-scale global models and novel modeling approaches involving machine learning.
Besides the scientific content, an essential goal of the seminar is to learn how to work effectively with the scientific literature.
Note that you can take this course even without taking Paper Club I previously.
