Aims, contents and method of the course

The course provides an overview of the diverse interactions between weather and traffic, as well as transportation infrastructure.
A particular focus is placed on aviation.
The content is delivered through lectures using slides (PowerPoint), additional documents (PDFs, links, etc.), specific literature, and supplementary videos.

Contents:
Historical overview of aviation meteorology and commercial aviation
Synoptic-scale, mesoscale and microscale phenomena in aviation
Standardized coding (METAR, TAF, SIGMET, ...) in aviation
Weather maps and meteorological products for aviation
Flight weather forecasting
Basics of aerodynamics
Weather-based hazards (wind, wind shear, turbulence, icing, ...)
Road weather and weather in railroading

Assessment and permitted materials

Dates and mode of the exam will be fixed in accordance with the students during the first appointment.
