Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Course with continuous assessment of students' performance, which is based on active participation during lessons (reading of compulsory texts, assignments, discussion rounds, etc.) and the preparation of teaching units as a final thesis made in teamwork.
The proseminar is held as a course with continuous assessment of students' performance. If you do not take the course and do not deregister before the “Univis” deadline, you will get negative grading. In this case the whole course has to be
repeated. There’s compulsory attendance (missing 3 hours max.).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Written and oral demands to be met by the students:
• Active participation (discussions, individual, partner and group assignments, etc.): 40%,
• Reading of and reflecting on recommended texts (individual assignment): 20%,
• Preparing and presenting a full teaching unit (conceptual version) in teamwork and submitting a written version of it including feedback: 40%
Each point needs to be positive for an overall positive grade.

Examination topics
Reading the literature, case-based teamwork, discussion, conducting activity based tuition sequences, preparing course materials, participating in excursions.

- Working out and repeating theoretical approaches on the basis of literature
- Analysing the prerequisites of the curriculum (including the basic concepts for secondary level II) for a socio-economic GW-class
- Assessing the objectives of socio-economic education with particular regard to political education
- Analysing economic policies by taking into account important economic and sociological theories
- Working out adequate methods and materials for concrete socio-economic goals on secondary level I and II
Learned competences:
- Getting to know different ways to foster students‘ capability to analyse, decide, judge and act in an informed way in economically shaped situations in life
- Getting to know possible applications of socio-economic theories in GW-classes and their limitations
- Getting to know and examine adequate methods and materials for a politically informed socio-economic class using concrete examples (secondary level I and II)
- Using different forms of media to examine the didactical challenges in GW-classes
