Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

On the basis of specific case studies, students will reflect upon population dynamics and development issues in a metropolitan area with various territorial issues (see thematic focuses). They will gain insights on topic-related questions and they will be able to develop a critical reflection.
The excursion will take place in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, some areas in Luberon and le Var.

Thematic focuses:
- urban and regional development
- population dynamics (including migration, socio-spatial inequalities and urban poverty, segregation, gated communities and criminality in Marseille, conflicts between agriculture areas – wien estates, urban growth, natural heritage and tourist activities)

Planned route:
The group will meet in Aix-en-Provence on the 18th of September (evening). Various activities and visits will take place in the surrounding areas (such as in Marseille: old town, Calanques, Etang de berre; Aix en Provence; Luberon: Lourmarin; Var: wine estate in Bandol, Porquerolles).
Marseille is 30km away from Aix.
