Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture "Introduction to Human Geography II" extends and supplements the topics covered in the lecture "Introduction to Human Geography I". In addition to the introduction to supplementary subject areas, the lecture aims to introduce the students to current research perspectives in human geography on the basis of selected problems.

The following themes will be addressed, inter alia:
- the development of human geographic thought and research paradigms,
- conflicts in spatial development dynamics and spatial planning options,
- transformation and differentiation of research perspectives in selected subject areas of human geography (e.g., in the geography of sustainability transitions)
- selected concepts in developmental geography, especially social vulnerability,
- in-depth aspects of human-geographical human-environment research, in particular environmental migration and environmental health.

Content is presented and discussed in lectures supplemented by mandatory readings, additional learning resources, and interactive forms of learning.

For students in the English-language master's program "Geography: Global Change & Sustainability" who have to take the exam as stipulations with admission, a reading list in English will be provided.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written test with multiple choice questions as stand alone exam for students in the teacher’s education bachelor programme or as part of the module exam of the orientation phase for students in the bachelor geography programme (in combination with a test on the content of VO Introduction to Human Geography I).

Students in the English-language master's program "Geography: Global Change & Sustainability" will have to pass an English exam based on the reading list in English.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Single Exam: Minimum of 25 (out of 50) points.
Module Exam: Minimum of 20 (out of 50) points for each part of the modul exam and a minimum of 50 (out of 100) for modul exam in total.

Presentation and reading lists will be provided on Moodle.

The English-language version of the exam (offered for students in the English-language master's program "Geography: Global Change & Sustainability" only) is based on the reading list in English.
