Aims, contents and method of the course

The Proseminar is adressed to advanced students after 1st diploma. The lesson aims to learn and improve the practial GIS-skills when dealing with aspects of environment, physical planning and (social-) economic development. Sufficient knowledge in using Arc/Info, ArcView or ArcGis and multivatiate statistics is expected.
Regarding methodology application, questionnaire technique to derive spatial explicit primary data, polygon- and raster-based modelling by integrating statistics and geostatistics will be applied. Further the students will improve their experience in dealing with large data sets and in presentation of project layout and project results. Regarding work experience project development, project management and team work will be trained "by doing".
The proseminars' objective is to achieve project results through mutual work carried out by student teams. Their will be no frontal lecture but the contents will be experienced during discussion and practise within and between the teams, lead by the lecturer.
Depending on the number of students 3-5 teams will be established with 3-4 members.
