Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will provide students with an implementation‑oriented approach to strategic development in the field of sustainability transitions, with a focus on regional contexts. Emphasis is placed on context‑specific and place‑based strategies, using locally grounded sustainability challenges and contestation as starting points.Students will examine multi‑stakeholder processes aimed at addressing a region’s specific challenges. Working with a selected case, they will explore different stakeholder perspectives through making a documentary (ca. 25 minutes) and developing a policy paper outlining potential solutions. The opening session provides an overview of key conceptual perspectives related to sustainability transitions, justice, development, and relevant policy frameworks. The following sessions are dedicated to research and develop the cases for the documentary and policy paper. The course is designed for students enrolled in the socio-economic transformations specialisation of the master’s programme “Geographies of Global Change and Sustainability Transformations”. Students from other specialisations or programmes will receive a mandatory introductory reading list.
