Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture covers the following topics:
- Mountains and their distribution on the globe
- Mountains and their heterogeneous climate, topography, and ecosystems
- Life zones in the elevational gradients of the mountains
- Biodiversity of the mountains
- Global Biodiversity Hotspots and mountains
- Global change and mountain ecosystems
- Conservation of mountain ecosystems and biodiversity

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam about the topics covered during the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement for positive credit: at least 50.5% of the points
Credit key:
16.5–18 points: grade 1 (excellent, "Sehr gut")
14–16 points: grade 2 (good, "Gut")
11.5–13.5 points: grade 3 (satisfactory, "Befriedigend")
9–11: grade 4 (sufficient, "Genügend")
0–8.5 points: grade 5 (failed, "Nicht genügend")
