Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the lecture the basics of phylogenetic systematics are taught: History of systematics, species concepts, nomenclature, species in space and time, definition of characters.
In the practical part, the participants learn to independently create a matrix with the help of the software TNT, as well as to calculate and interpret phylogenetic trees, indices and support values.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written test and generation and interpretation of a phylogenetic tree in TNT. A complete script is provided for the practical part, but may not be used in the examination.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance during the practical part, in case of absence the material has to be made up for in consultation with the lecturers. Grading: 50% exam theoretical part, 50% exam practical part.
