Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Folgende Kriterien werden für die Leistungsbeurteilung herangezogen: Anwesenheit und Mitarbeit, Methoden-Protokolle, Literaturreferat, Schriftliche Ausarbeitung der Literaturarbeit, Durchführung der Projektarbeit, Präsentation der Projektergebnisse, Schriftliche Projektarbeit (oder Bachelorarbeit).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Ziel des Projektpraktikums ist es StudentInnen an das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten im Bereich der Bioakustik heranzuführen. Sie erlernen dabei tierische Laute aufzuzeichnen und zu analysieren und das Hörvermögen von Tieren zu messen. Weiters erlernen sie eine wissenschaftliche Arbeit zu konzipieren, durchzuführen und die Ergebnisse schriftlich und mündlich darzulegen.
Examination topics
Im Seminar wird PowerPoint insbesondere zur Präsentation von Tonaufnahmen verwendet. Im praktischen Teil werden Programme wie Excel, SigmaPlot und SPSS zur allgemeinen Datenverarbeitung und CoolEdit, STX, Raven sowie BioSig RP für bioakustische Aufnahmen, Analysen und die Messung des Hörvermögens eingesetzt.

Die zur Durchführung der Projektarbeit notwendige Literatur wird im Laufe des Praktikums ausgegeben.

In the seminar students will hear about basic acoustical techniques such as sound recording and analysis, sound level measurements, hearing thresholds determination, data presentation and statistics. Students will give seminars on papers important for their research project, and finally will present the results of their project.
In the practical part students will take care for their animals, learn basic acoustical techniques, collect and analyse their data and write a paper-like project work (or bachelor work).
