Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
By means of field observations this series of excursions introduces into the main features of flora and vegetation of eastern Austria. The spectrum of viewpoints includes floristics, systematics, evolution, adaptation and autecology, plant communities, relationships between habitat-differentiation and plant cover, biogeography, human impact on plant cover, and issues of species, habitat and landscape conservation. Basic botanical knowledge is expected). It is recommended to participate simultaneously to the course (lecture series) "Flora and Vegetation of Central Europe", which offers the theoretical aspects for the excursion series.
Assessment and permitted materials
Short tests at the end of the several excursions (using the minutes is allowed) and written minutes about two excursions.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The participants learn about the most important vegetation types and characteristic plant species at different altitudinal levels and conditioned by abiotic habitat factors in NE Austria. They understand the evolution of flora and vegetation as results of spatial and temporal developments as well as anthropogenic influences.
Examination topics
Demonstration by the lecturers and autonomous activities by the participants.
