Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Specific topics about habitat selection, abundance and distribution, diversity and life history strategies of fish are discussed and practically implemented. The course is subdivided in three parts. The first theoretical part includes the reading, presentation and discussion of selected examples from the literature, as well as the discussion, planning and creation of a sampling design. Additionally the design of a protocoll sheet for the field work and for the computer-based data analyses and interpretation will be created. The practical part consists of field sampling trips (especially in the free-flowing Danube). The third part deals with the data analyses and writing of a report according to the style of international journals.

Assessment and permitted materials

collaboration, data analysis and interpretation, oral presentation of results, written project report

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Application of different fishing methods, data analysis, interpretation and presentation of results with emphasis of fish ecology in Large Rivers.

Examination topics

Measurement of physical environmental factors, drift-sampling and boat-electro fishing in the free-flowing Danube east of Vienna.
