Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The main goal is to learn how to perform fluorescence staining on microscopic aquatic animals and analysis using confocal microscopy. Participants will be trained in fluorescence labeling of neuromuscular components, cell nuclei, and the like, by performing their own, individual mini research project. The data obtained will be further analyzed with graphics software such as AMIRA or FIJI. This will be followed by comparative analysis and discussion in an evolutionary context that incorporates published data from the literature. The students will give short presentations during the course and will submit a short scientific essay. Thereby, insights into the main principles of scientific writing will round up the course curriculum.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation, oral presentations, written manuscript;
Grading system:
Character for presence, participation, mid-project presentation (Power Point): 20%
Character for final presentation (Power Point): 20%
Character for written manuscript: 60%
All subparts must be positively evaluated (minimum character "4") for successful overall evaluation. Overall character must be "4" or better for successful participation.
