Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture provides information on the following topics: short history of bryology, anatomy and morphology of liverworts and mosses, life-forms and -strategies of bryophytes, physiology of bryophytes with an emphasis on water-content, nutrition and photosynthesis; ecology of bryophytes in important national ecosystems.
This lecture should be a basis for the better understanding of the importance of bryophytes for the ecosystem function and should encourage to include bryophytes in their further work.
