Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will be split into 3 sections: (1) mouse embryonic development (general
embryology, example of sex determination), (2) examples of epigenetic mechanisms during
development (genomic imprinting, X-inactivation, gene regulation by lncRNAs), (3) tools for understanding gene regulation during development (in vitro models, high-throughput methods for mapping lncRNAs and epigenetic states, chromatin structure from chromatin
conformation capture (3C)).

Assessment and permitted materials

Written test: 6 long form questions to be answered over 1 hour (8 points per question, 25/48
points to pass).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Imparting a detailed understanding of mouse embryonic development and mechanisms of
gene regulation, in particular epigenetic gene regulation, and the methods to study this.
