Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course provides an overview of the classification and taxonomy of prokaryotes, and introduces basic concepts of molecular taxonomy, phylogenetic sequence analysis, and phylogenetic treeing methods. This knowledge is applied in practical exercises with online databases, web-based tools for sequence analysis and the phylogeny software package ARB. The programme ARB is a comprehensive, worldwide-used software environment for comparative sequence analysis and phylogenetic inference. Participants will learn how to interpret phylogenetic data and identify microorganisms by means of phylogenetic marker genes.
