Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of this course is to explore and discuss recently published studies in soil microbial ecology, biogeochemistry and terrestrial ecosystem ecology, to gain insight into the status quo of scientific research in this field. Scientific papers can be selected from a literature list, or be suggested by the students. Each participant will give an oral presentation of one paper of his/her choice during the course (powerpoint presentation). After the course you should have 1) improved understanding of the state of the art of current research and open questions in terrestrial microbiology and biogeochemistry and 2) trained your ability to present complex scientific topics in an intelligible way. Basic knowledge in terrestrial biogeochemistry, ecosystem ecology and/or soil microbial ecology required.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral presentation of a scientific paper (powerpoint), active participating in discussions
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attendance of at least 2/3 of course units, active participation in discussions (50%), oral presentation of a a scientific topic (50%)
