Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content: Main target of the lecture is the evaluation of ecological theories for selected freshwater fishes. Several relationships will be described by mathematical models, with emphasis of the temporal and spatial variations. These results should lead to a prognostic approach with suggestions for a scientific management.
At the beginning of the lecture the distribution of the considered species will be discussed in detail. Furthermore examples of their population dynamics will be given, with emphasis of the relationship between life cycle- and environmental variables and the intra- and interspecific differences. Taking trout as an example, its energy budget will be analysed through experimental results and compared with those from field experiments.
A field excursion should contribute to the knowledge of the species.
At the end of the lecture an oral examination is offered.
