Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students will make microCT images of important museum, archival, or research specimens and publish the annotated 3D image data in a public archive. Specimens to be imaged will be chosen in cooperation with the instructors and curators. Each group of 2-3 students will make supplemental visualizations and metadata files for publication with the raw image data and give a short presentation to the class.Class will meet weekly to cover theoretical and practical background and work on project design and execution. The course time is not blocked, so the project work can be carried out according each student's own schedule.
Assessment and permitted materials
Based on participation (30%), project content and presentation (30%), and final report (40%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will work on non-destructive 3D imaging and archiving of museum and collections specimens. They will present their results to the class, and publish their images and results in a public archive.
Examination topics
In-class discussions, independent reading, and small-group work with instructors.
Reading list
Literature specific to each project will be chosen by the instructors and students during development of the projects.
