Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will get an overview over the following topics: Signals and cues, true communication and eavesdropping, Advantages and disadvantages of signalling, misinformation and manipulation; Intra- and interspecific communication; Behavioural contexts - Conflict resolution, Territorial defence, Social interactions, Parent-offspring-interaction, Social integration, Autocommunication, Environmental Context; Communication modalities: Acoustical, Vibrational, Chemical, Visual, Electric and Tactile Communication; Signal Production, Propagation and Signal Perception; Evolution of Signalling.

Assessment and permitted materials

Schriftliche Prüfung mit 6 Fragen.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Ziel der Vorlesung ist es den Studierenden umfassende Kenntnisse über die Vielfalt der Kommunikationsformen im Tierreich und die dahinter liegenden Mechanismen zu vermitteln.
