Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture deals with modern state of the art methods and applications in molecular biological research. It is designed for students advanced enough to be already familiar with the basic theory and basic practical approaches in cell and molecular biology (eg: tissue culture, transfection, PCR, etc), already presented during the Bachelor study. The taught subjects are adapted annually to allow incorporation of new developments in the field. Current topics outlined above.
Due to the bad exam performance from last year, we have decided NOT to stream the lectures and boost physical attendance. Students are very much advised to show up in the lectures. The lectures will be recorded, but the recordings will become published after the lecture series is finished.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam. Exams will be held ON SITE (with physical presence)! 4 exams are planned - additional dates possible on demand.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is the principle aim of this lecture series to give people advanced in their study an overview on selected techniques and technologies, which are beyond standard textbook knowledge. A series of declared experts and specialists, who also work with these techniques in everyday lab-life, will allow students to get a deeper insight into how profound scientific research is conducted on a methodological level.
@Exam: 6 questions (each question from a different topic) - each question 10 points maximum.
The exam questions style is completely free to every lecturer: can contain several sub-questions, can be open questions, multiple choice, single choice or Pick-N-style and also a mixture of question types.
Evaluation key: 1 (Sehr Gut – A): 55,00-60,00
2 (Gut - B): 48,00-54,99
3 (Befriedigend - C): 39,00-47,99
4 (Genügend - D): 30,00-38,99
5 (Nicht Genügend – E / Failed): 00,00-29,99

Examination topics

The slide contents of the individual lectures is the basis for the exam questions. Any added oral/written comments from the individual lecturers will also be included.
