Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Teaching aim: Presentation of the general principles of drug effects. The focus is on cellular and molecular mechanisms and relevant signal transduction cascades. The lecture discusses absorption, distribution, excretion and pharmacokinetics of drugs.
Contents: Pharmacon-receptor interactions, classification of different receptor types (membrane receptors, ion channels, enzymes, carrier molecules), structure and function of selected receptors (ligand-activated ion channels, 7-helix receptors, nuclear receptors, receptor protein kinases), pharmacological influence on important "second messenger" systems (e.g. adenylate cyclase/cAMP system, phospholipase C/inositol phosphate system), interaction of ion channels with G proteins, molecular architecture, function and pharmacology of voltage-dependent ion channels, pharmacological influence on the contraction of skeletal muscle and heart muscle cells, mechanisms of release of mediators, modes of drug application, absorption, Distribution, elimination (phase I reactions, the cytochrome P450 system), phase II reactions, first pass effect, active metabolites, renal excretion, pharmacokinetics (including various compartment models), the autonomic nervous system (cholinergic, noradrenergic, purinergic and serotonergic transmission), peptides and proteins as drugs, nitric oxide, local hormones.
